Another Path is possible

Life is all the things: short and long, strange and boring, free and constrained, beautiful and tragic, requiring heart and mind. We’re all often very tired humans, and being a person some days feels impossible, but we are nonetheless powerful beings with the ability to re-shape the world, living in local, national, and global societies that very much needs re-shaping, and we are sentient creatures with the capacity to find joy, connection, and beauty, living in bodies and minds that revel in transformation.

Zen Chaos Writing is rooted in modern Buddhism—a particularly transformative philosophy for the individual and the world. Zen can be embraced by anyone, with no need to abandon individuality or culture, by answering the call to walk the Eightfold Path.

The path invites us to do the following:

  • Seek and find ancient and modern wisdom on human nature, the universe, suffering, and liberation.

  • Live every day with elevated purpose and principled compassion, dedicating your actions, speech, and livelihood to grow a better world.

  • Be present while you stroll under the stars,  sit lotus position on the meditation mat, cruise down city streets, enjoy time with others, and build your home into a sanctuary.

Modern zen:

Holds ancient truths in contemporary hands

Celebrates individualism, diversity, equity, and intersectionality

Acknowledges adaptation as a response to the changing needs of a changing world

Embraces and explores counterculture Buddhist ideas and thoughts as zen for our generation

Rejects antiquated, oppressive, and problematic philosophies, ways of life, and institutions

Addresses the crises facing our social, economic, political, and natural environments

Showcases a way to liberation that doesn't involve total renunciation
